Follow up is a crucial aspect of healthcare communication.
Patients are responsible for keeping appointments and physicians cannot force patients to obtain diagnostic work-up or come to their offices; however, courts have repeatedly signaled in their verdicts that physicians—not patients—have the clinical expertise to evaluate the need for testing, treatment and follow-up care.
Appropriate follow-up care can make the difference between a missed or delayed diagnosis and a successful intervention and treatment.
